About Menagesha Suba Forest Park

Menagesha Suba Forest Park

Menagesha Suba Forest Park, located in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia, is known as one of the oldest natural forests and a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The park is about 30 kilometers west of Addis Ababa, covering diverse terrains that rise from 2,000 meters to 3,000 meters above sea level. This elevation gradient supports a wide variety of flora and fauna, including endemic species like the Menelik bushbuck and the Abyssinian catbird. The forest park serves as a critical ecological area, preserving indigenous plants like the African juniper and podocarpus. Beyond its ecological value, Menagesha Suba holds historical significance as it was once the hunting grounds of Emperor Menelik II. Visitors are drawn to its tranquil hiking trails, beautiful landscapes, and opportunities for bird watching. Despite its proximity to urban areas, the park offers a peaceful retreat with panoramic views of the surrounding highlands.
